TORREGRANDE KITEFOIL’23
WORLD MASTER, FRANCE AND THAILAND LEAD
EUROPEAN YOUTH FORMULAKITE, HEAD-TO-HEAD BETWEEN HUANG AND PIANOSI
AMONG WOMEN, BATTLE BETWEEN PEGOURIE AND DAMASIEWICZ

Marina di Torregrande – The first day of official races of the World Master and the European Youth Formula Kite has concluded. The scenario of the Gulf of Oristano welcomed the first four races for the masters and the first four qualifying races for the U21 European Championship. The technical level has been very high since the first day, with the young competitors facing challenging situations due to the instability of the weather conditions.

For the “Kitefoil Open Masters World Championships,” the leaderboard is currently led by France, with Billy Guy-Maupas and Jean Romain Morel dominating the first and second positions, followed by Danish athlete James Johnsen. The first Italian competitor, Simone Romano, holds the fourth position after the first day, followed by Alessandro Giannini, who is sixth behind French athlete Morgan Lagraviere. The leading woman and seventeenth overall in the standings is Thai athlete Benyapa Jantawan.

All eyes are on the “Formula Kite Youth European Championship,” the U21 European Championship. Four initial races were held, which were crucial for the athletes divided into three fleets: two for men and one for women.

At the end of the day, there was a close competition between Chinese athlete Qibin Huang and Italian athlete Riccardo Pianosi in the men’s division. Another tie occurred between Czech athlete Vojtech Koska and Brazilian athlete Lucas Fonseca.

In the women’s division, French athlete Heloise Pegourie and Polish athlete Julia Damasiewics are leading the rankings, followed by another member of the French team, Chloe Revil.

The first day was characterized by unstable weather conditions, with morning winds from the south-southeast that continued to rotate throughout the day, eventually settling in the west-northwest quadrants with intensities of up to 14 knots. These conditions put the technical organization to the test, requiring constant modifications to the race course.
