Ninety young athletes and their teams from all over the world
seek the world title in Torre Grande.
Oristano’s seafront hosts the World Village where the athletes will spend the first days rehearsing, checking marine weather conditions and inspecting equipment. On Tuesday 17 May at 18:00 the opening ceremony will take place and immediately afterwards the ‘Formula Kite Youth World Championship 2022’ will get underway. From Wednesday 18 May at 10:00am, every morning at the same time the athletes will gather for the rider’s meeting and every day the first possible start will be from 11:00am. Racing will continue throughout the afternoon and the public will be able to follow the races from the beach. On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May the ‘Formula Kite Youth World Championship 2022’ will reach its final stages, which will be followed live worldwide and with technical commentary in English. The categories on the water will be Under 21, 17 and 15 and the athletes will have to follow the rules that will be observed at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
“The 30-year activity of Eolo Beach Sports has been crowned by world and national events for a few years now”- explains Eddy Piana, organiser of the “Formula Kite Youth World Championship 2022” at Torre Grande. “The work of the Eolo Beach Sports team and of all those working on land and in the sea these days to allow the event to run perfectly is immense and I would like to publicly thank everyone because the effort that individuals put in becomes a real winning team effort at Torre Grande”.
Sea & Kite Fest at the World Village. A village has sprung up on the seafront to host the athletes and the stage from which the images that the international director will be filming in the Gulf of Oristano will be broadcast live. In addition, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons there will be talks on sport and sea culture: the Ceas of the Oristano Municipality will be present, as well as marine biologist Valeria Andreotti, the president of the Regional Sailing Federation III zone Corrado Fara, and professor Salvatore Melis, provincial coordinator and physical education lecturer, teacher of training methodology at the Faculty of Motor Sciences, University of Cagliari. There will be the Med Sea Foundation, the CreS, the Area Marina Protetta Penisola del Sinis, Isola di Mal di Ventre, the IMC – International Marine Centre of Torre Grande, Legacoop, Flag Pescando. On Sunday afternoon, there will also be live links with rowing Olympian Stefano Oppo and Canoe and Kayak Federation Olympic coach Stefano Loddo.
On the seafront and on the beach there will be space for sports activities with Decathlon, partner of the ‘Formula Kite Youth World Championship 2022’, which will be present with beach soccer activities, and Asd Eolo with beach tennis. Also present will be the associations Crossfit Costa Ovest Oristano, Calistenia by Street Workout Oristano, Gymnica Oristano the Sardinia Surf School will present its skate activities, the Is Benas Surf Club and Kite’n’Di kitesurfing school will also be present, and Sardegna Footvolley. From Is Arenas and Desenzano del Garda there will be the Indigo Yoga association, Sup Surf Explore and from Alghero the Sup Ventura association will arrive.
On Thursday, 19 May, Eolo Beach Sports will host around 100 students and teachers from the Liceo Classico De Castro high school in Oristano: the students will be able to try their hand at stand-up paddle, windsurfing, and wingfoil lessons in the presence of instructors from the National Sailing Federation and the National Windsurfing Federation. The activities will be followed by the start of the Kiteborading World Championship regattas.
